When I was in my MBA program, I met a businessman who needed some market research done to see if his next business idea was feasible. He paid me $1,000 to research and come back to him with an estimate of how much I thought he could sell and who his first 3 buyers would be. Tall order. He gave me a sample market study he had conducted and off I went. This was exciting. $1,000! A month later, I came back to him with a business plan, financials, a thorough market study, and three qualified pre-orders that amounted to $1M! Wow! I was hooked. Fast forward two years and I met a consultant who was starting to think about retirement. He asked me if I’d be interested in helping some of his clients and he’d train me. I was in. Learning at the feet of an expert was a dream come true. His mentorship sold me on helping small business owners. Some were startups. Some were failing. Some were growing. And under our guidance, they ALL grew, got established, turned around. Succeeded.
Honestly, I fell in love with the dreams, passion, hopes, and realizations of all these entrepreneurs who surround us every day. And I had an ability that many of them did not have. They were passionate about their ideas, products, and services. Yet many of them lacked the knowledge of growing a business, taking the next steps to make them successful, or even bringing their lives back under control so that they could enjoy their family and have a life outside of their office or store.
